This last weekend we celebrated the anniversaries of the children and as a souvenir for the invited children I prepared a little garland with the colors of the rainbow. I thought it would be a good tutorial if someone wanted to encourage them to make a decorative element that gives children a lot of play (such as a belt, turban, etc.) and that doesn’t need to sew anything!

Materials

  • Cloth
  • Double-sided interfacions
  • Woolen thread or cordon
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Iron

Assembly

1. Chossing the fabrics.

First of all, we have to decide which fabric we want to use to make the pennants. We can make all the flags with fabric of the same color or each different one. On this occasion I’ve chosen to put 6, following the colors of the rainbow.

Chosen fabrics, we have to Imagine the amount of fabric that we will need depending on whether it is a fabric or many. That’s why I leave you a document that you can print to be a pattern when you measuring and cutting the fabric. You can download it here. This pattern is two triangles together, which then we will bend in half and we will have a triangle with the cordon slip into.

2. Cut the fabrics and cordons

The first thing we must do is cling the double-faced interfacing on the back of the fabric that we have planned to use, always thinking that it is better that the clinged surface be a little larger than the figure we want to trim.

Clingedon the physelin, we cut the figure of the pattern that we have seen before, as many pennants and fabrics as we want.

Here you can see the cut pennants that I used. Since there were many children on the anniversary I made 35 of each color!

Then, we have to cut the cordon where the flag banners will be hanged. I have cut them 1 meter each, a size that allows children to stick to the waist, at the head or hang them in any place.

3. Adding the banners

Now we have to hold the pennants to the cordon. That’s why I used the 60 cm ruler.

  1. Fold all the banners in half remarking the fold.
  2. Center the cordon with the ruler.
  3. Place the pennants 9 cm away between the start of each one, folded in half and passing the cordon inside.
  4. Hold the pennants with the iron (because the fabrics have a interfacing on both sides of the interior, the fabrics will be well attached, they will not fraying and nothing will need to be stitched).
  5. If we want the pennants not to move above the cord, we must  iron the part where the cordon passes through the fabric in order to fix them well.

And we already have them finished to enjoy them in all the ways that the children let run by their imagination !!! Try it, that is very easy and you do not need a sewing machine or needles.

I hope you liked it. See you soon!!!
